I’m not a trained musician, but was looking at some scores one day, and discovered that various combinations of letters (sfz, pp, ff, etc.) are used to designate the speed and style a musician is supposed to use when performing a composition. I immediately thought it would be a good idea to write a song using solely those designations. An homage to the rhythm of Captain Beefheart’s “Dropout Boogie” appears in the second half of the piece. This recording is from a performance at the wulf in Los Angeles.
